I understand that if a durotomy occurs during a spinal surgery that it is considered incidental and not billable.
However, If the surgeon discovers a durotomy during a spinal surgery that did not occur during the surgical session, is the repair billable? Let's say it was caused by a procedure performed on a previous day or in a previous surgery.
Documentation supporting your answer would be greatly appreciated as I could not find any. All I kept finding is the scenario where the durotomy occurred during the surgical session.
