Does anyone know the criteria providers use to link Diagnosis DM2/Hyperlip? Does the provider look at labs or something else? If lab values what is the values needed to support dx for a provider? I was just wanting to know more on how the physician would links both together.

Unless your provider directly links the hyperlipidemia to the NIDDM the two conditions should be coded separately. If he does directly link them the correct dx codes would be E11.69 and E78.xx
