🤓Hopefully someone can help with this. I cannot seem to get a straight answer from anyone that I speak to. When mechanical ventilation is achieved through endotracheal intubation I am coding Z99.11 [Dependence on respiratory [ventilator] status.

However, quite often the documentation (context: subsequent inpatient days) only states "intubation". In this case I was instructed to code Z93.0 Tracheostomy status. On an audit it was marked as an incorrect DX. Still no straight answer how to code this correctly.

I have scoured through the alpha-index under status and presence of....I'm still stuck on this.

🧐When the documentation states 'patient is intubated' do you code Z93.8 [Other artificial opening status]?

Thank you
