Hello. I just started cardiac coding for e and m. Am I completely obligated to use the 1997 guidelines to code the visit if I have a comp exam anyway? Please help. Thanks
 
You are not obligated to use either unless a carrier specifies one or the other. However, they usually don't. You can use either based on what works best for the documentation.
