Hi,
I have been attending to many coding seminars, and been advising this to all of my docs, but recently I came to the point, where I need someone to confirm this to me again. Situation: Doctor sees a patient at level III visit (99213). Patient has diabetes for many years already. And during the visit doctor also educates patient on diet/exercising, FSG self management and gives out brochures. Also, she's documented the education (but without the time spent- which would be great if she did). Now, the "Counseling Risk Factor Reduction" section clearly says that we can't use it since the E&M code wasn't distinct (same problem). In my understanding, we can and need to add up a level of E&M in this case, right? So it should've gone out with Level IV visit code, right? Please advise! Resources in writing will also be appreciated! Thank you! ~Julia
