I am looking for information regarding an E&M coder our practice is looking to hire. Our physicians would like to have one on staff to review their notes to ensure they are coding correctly. I need to see if this is typical across the country and how many physicians an E&M coder could handle (we have 25 physicians). Any assistance you can provide would be very benefical.

I work for a urology group of 51 physicians, and we audit the physicians notes to see if they are billing correctly. (there are 5 people in this department).:)

I'm in Eastern Iowa and its not common practice here....yet. Most offices hire out 1-2 times a year, but the discussion has come up to have someone on staff who is qualified.

I work for a multi-specialty group of 75 providers in Colorado. My main job is to audit their notes on a routine basis and provide education. I know several other coders who do the same thing in their practices.:)
