Hi, everyone. I work in the hospice and palliative care field and have a question concerning the difference of E/M encounters between an ALF and a nursing facility.

From what I understand from reading the guidelines in CPT, nursing home E/M services can include time spent on floor or unit in addition to face to face time. This does not seem to be the case with E/M services in an ALF.

I am trying to verify if a prolonged services code can be used when some of the time was not face to face in an ALF.

I appreciate any help.
