I need a little help.

Can an physician perform an H&P in the office for an hospital stay coming up, Then turn around and bill an E/M visit for the day they did the H&P?
The H&P is not dated for the e/m date they seen the pt.

I am trying to find ref to show they cannot do this.
Maybe I am wrong

If the decision for major surgery has already been made prior to the H&P visit, then you cant bill for the H&P.


What services are included in the global
surgery payment?
When the physician who furnishes the surgery also
furnishes the following services, Medicare includes
them in the global surgery payment:
? Pre-operative visits after the decision is made to
operate. For major procedures, this includes preoperative
visits the day before the day of surgery.
For minor procedures, this includes pre-operative
visits the day of surgery;
