We have an new patient that came in today for an rov. Our doctor spent over 1 hour between rov and chart review from prev dr. Can we bill both rov/sov because of mult hx issues that were discussed or can we bill prolonged serv codes?? Pt has pancreatic insufficiency,shwachman-diamond syndrome/neutropenia and i didnt think we could bill prolonged with an rov. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

Preventive vs Sick visit

I'm not certain was you mean by your abbreviation "rov" but I'm thinking "routine office visit" otherwise known as preventive or "well" visit.

However, you indicate that this patient has a complex medical history.

Do you have sufficient documentation to support a "sick" visit in addition to the preventive visit? If so, you may code that separately.

Counseling is included in preventive visits, so you cannot code that separately.
