I have a patient who is Medicare replacement. I have two doctors of the same practice
and same type of doctor's (interventional cardiologist) The first dr did a intial Hospital exam
99223 since we can not bill for consults. The second one was called in 4 day later same
admission to hospital and he wants to bill for initial hospital exam since he is being called
in for a different problem? I understand that under the consults procedure same physician
of the same practice would do a f/u visit. Can some clarify this for me/Thanks

According to the CPT book, to code an Initial Hospital Care visit - you would have to have admit the patient to the hospital. To me it seems as though your physician is stuck with a follow up E/M code. I looked over the Transmittal but it was not specific to your situation.
