Hello all. I have a question in regard to E11.A. Type II DM without complications in remission.
If a patient is in remission is it appropriate to code DM with any complications such as E11.40?
My understanding E11.A Type II DM without complications in remission- does not mean that the DM is cured, but is under control without active medication.
Then I saw this article:
that's FAQ area states:
Am I wrong in my thinking that E11.A is only used if the patient has NO complications?
Would you still code E11.40 and not E11.A if the patient has neuropathy?
Or would you code E11.A and G62(other specified polyneuropathy) or G63 (polyneuropathy in disease classified elsewhere)?

A: Yes, if complications persist despite remission, code both E11.A and the appropriate complication codes (e.g., E11.A + E11.42 for diabetic polyneuropathy).Am I wrong in my thinking that E11.A is only used if the patient has NO complications?
