I would like help clarifying ear wax removal. I realize that 69210 is only for Impacted cerumen requiring instrumentation.....and for ear wax removal (irrigation) it will be an e/m code with documentation as to what was done, what ear....my question is this, can a CNA do this or does it require a nurse? If a CNA can do this does the provider need to do a sep note or just have the CNA chart it?

A physician, NP, or PA is required to remove the earwax if billing for 69210. Basic irrigation is normally performed by a nurse, but you will need to review your individual State's guidelines.
