I hope someone can help me with this issue. We have a pediatric patient who came in for a followup exam after an inpatient stay for an overdose. When I went to code this diagnosis (969.6) my billing system gave me an edit stating I could not bill this diag without an informed consent form. We are a pediatric practice and we normally don't use this form. Does anyone know about this? I thought that form was for hospital services. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks !

If the condition has resolved and the patient is no longer receiving treatment, it should be assigned a history code, V67.x. This is one of those instances where reimbursement may not line up with correct coding.
