Hello,
I have a question regarding EEG billing, are these billed the date the device is attached to the patient, or the date the provider reads/interprets it?
For example, this is what I get from the provider... she submitted 10/13 as the charge date.
This provider is a Pediatric Neurologist and is the ordering provider. This is the extent of the documentation I get every time...
Result Type:

* Final Report *
Ambulatory EEG
History: 14 year old male with history of seizures. Study being done to evaluate frequency of epileptiform activity.
Medications: lacosamide
Refer: Nurse Prac Y, APRN
Description:
69 hour and 39 minute recording was performed using the ambulatory machine. 10-20 electrode headset was applied and EEG data was digitally acquired using the Nihon Kohden software.
Wakefulness: lower voltage faster frequency activity was noted in anterior head regions and a posterior dominant rhythm of 10 Hz was noted with eye closure.
Sleep: Sleep was marked by symmetric sleep spindles in central head regions and vertex waves. REM sleep and stage III sleep were also identified without abnormalities.
Photic stimulation was performed and induced no abnormalities.
Hyperventilation was performed and induced no abnormalities.
Interictal epileptiform discharges: none
Events: none
ECG was NSR.
In summary, this study was normal and no events occurred.
Charge submitted by provider is;
Date: 10/13/25
CPT: 95723
DX: G40.309
My thinking is the charge should be:
Date: 11/02/2025
CPT: 95723
DX: G40.309 (pulled from the order)
