If the interpretation of an EEG states "EEG study is abnormal due to mild to moderate diffuse background slowing with preserved reactivity", and then under clinical comments it further states "Diffuse slowing is an etiologically nonspecific indicator of diffuse or multifocal encephalopathy", would anyone feel it is appropriate to report encephalopathy as the diagnosis? I feel like since it states it is a nonspecific indicator of encephalopathy that is not really a confirmatory diagnosis, and my other option would be using a diagnosis for abnormal EEG. Any thoughts on this? Thank you in advance!
