A patient's EEG results were awake and not drowsy. If the purpose was for the patient to sleep would I use a 95819 with a modifier?

Yes you would use 95819 since sleep was attempted. If you are billing for both the professional & technical component then you would not append a modifier. If your doctor is just doing the reading then you would use modifier -26

Is there anywhere I can find the rules for the EEG's. If it is for asleep and awake and the pt never falls asleep, do you add 52 modifier since you only covered the asleep part of the code? I need to have some reference that shows me the exceptions. i.e. both components are not done. Thanks for anyones help.
