I have a doc that does EEGs for patients that are on a ventilator and heavily sedated or have decreased responsiveness. the hospital usually charges routine awake 95816. the docs are circling 95822 but the report never mentions coma or sleep. the report does say that the patient has decreased responsiveness. the diagnosis given is usually altered mental status, cerebral hemorrhage, seizures, encephalopathy, etc. any thoughts?
