I just had a question asked of me regarding billing an EGD and a Colonoscopy on a same patient, different dates of service but using one authorization from the insurance in an ASC setting. I can see the patient having two dates of service in some instances but I think they would need different authorizations right? Otherwise, is it considered as double-dipping if the physician is breaking the two procedures into different days just because he wants to show an increase in his patient numbers? The concern is that the ASC could get into trouble on this one. I haven't done billing in quite awhile (six + years) so I'm not sure what the rules are concerning this if there are any. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
