Wiki EGD discontinued procedure

A patient came in for and EGD and there was a stricture in the esophageal junction. The physician could not transverse the lesion so the procedure was discontinued. The exam is to be repeated in the hospital on a later date. Do you code the EGD 43235 with modifier 53 since that was the intended procedure or code an Esophagosopy since he examined the esophagus?

I was taught to code the intended procedure (EGD) with the modifier.

Thank you in advance,
Angela Cawthon
