Good afternoon all!

I am not sure what ICD 9 code to use for an EGD performed on a patient, who supposedly lost a tooth during intubation. Upon evaluation of the esophagus/mouth/stomach, no tooth was located. What would be the appropriate ICD 9 code to use for the EGD??

Thanks in advance for your help!

Peggy

If no definitive injury or S/S (bleeding, tooth fracture...) are documented, look at V71.89 for observation of a suspected condition that is ruled out.
