Hello,

I'm hoping I can get some opinions on this.

How would you code for benign gastric mucosa from pathology on and EGD

Op report:

Indication : heartburn R12

Findings before pathology: normal mucosa on stomach and esophagus, but a sample was taken and sent to
pathology

Pathology: Benign gastric mucosa on both esophagus and stomach.

Does k31.89 sound logical to assign as primary Dx?

The K code would be inappropriate because there was no disease found in the Pathology. I'd go with the symptoms that caused the EGD in the first place for this one.
