I work at an urgent care and a patient came in with chest pain and tingling in arm. The doc ordered an ekg and then put a heart monitor on. Can 93000 and 93040 be used together? Or should i just bill for the ekg 93000?
You can bill the 93040 with a -59 modifier but make sure documentation supports it. I would think that the reason the doc did that was because he saw something on the EKG to prompt getting the rhythum strip. But don't assume that. Look at his documentation and see if there is a medical nec to do both.
