We have a pt that is on Trisonex she has to come in once a week to get an EKG done. Can anyone help me with the correct dx code to use for this?
Thanks for your help.

RE: EKG/ON Drug

My Rationale:

Trisenox can prolong the QT interval , cause AV block; So If +ve finding, the drug needs to be discontinued.
EKG 's performed frequently to r/o drug-related adverse cardiovascular side-effects which 're fatal;

I'll assign V71.7 observation for suspected CV dz not found, WO sign or symptom
V71.7 as PDX + v58.69+ neoplasm code

Thanks

I disagree the cardiovascular disease is not suspected in this case. So the V71.7 is not indicated. They are monitoring the drug to be certain that the drug is performing as expected. They do not suspect any cardiovascular involvement they are monitoring to be sure it does not happen.

historically, i have used E933.1- antineoplastic and immunosuppressive drugs as the primary dx for a chemo related EKG, keeping the cancer dx secondary.

First E codes cannot be use as a primay dx at any time. And 2nd that E code is for an adverse reaction to the drug. You must use the main sub section heading to help define this E code.
