We referred our Pt to see the specialist. The specialist request that our office does EKG on pt so the specialist can start the pt on some medication. What do we use for DX?

Get the initial dx from the referring phyisician. The physician that interpret the ekg can render a dx after reading the ekg if there is a problem.

2 options here. If you had to send the pt out to a specialist then I presume they have a diagnoses that would substantiate a EKG. In that case you would just have to have your physician agree and sign off on the order. Or if your physician is not comfortable ordering the EKG then it would need to be ordered by the specialist that is requiring the EKG to be done.

Hi,
If there is any abnormal finding reflected in this EKG - may be 794.31 can be considered.
Otherwise can code from the patient's clinical history.

Do not code from the clinical hx. We have to remember that only physcian can diagnose. Obtain the initial reason for the EKG from the referring physician whether the specialist or the primary physician.
