What is CMS guidelines for billing EKG's, do they want the day it was performed or the day it was read, example done in the ER department.?

I thought the coding was for the date of service to the patient, but this raises and interesting question. In other words, I don't know! :)

It depends on the payers requirements. Usually though the date the EKG was interpreted by the physician is reported as the DOS. If you need more clarification you can go to the AAPC blog " match the date of service with the date of test interpretation.
