Please help me with this. We have recently closed our OB dept and had a patient come into the ER and deliver there. My question is: can we still bill the regular delivery codes or is there a different protocol if it is done this way? Same question for the baby chart. Does it matter that the patients are not inpatients?

It sounds like it would be the delivery only code 59409 for delivery only if it was a vaginal delivery unless the patient was a VBAC then the code would be 59612. You may have an inquiry from the insurance company but the procedure is the same regardless of the place of service. Good luck!
