Here the scenario a psych pt is at the ER but there's no beds available so he is there for 5 or 6 days
what would you code for the visits
the initial would be an er code
what about the rest of the days

The coding should be based on the patient's status (e.g. whether inpatient, observation, etc.), not the actual location in the hospital. The patient's status changes at the time the order to admit is written, not at the time that they are moved from the ER to a bed.
