Hello,

When coding an EMG, would you pick up the "abnormal study" R94.131 in addition to the dx for example abnormal study: study shows carpal tunnel bilateral.

Would you code dx as: G56.03, R94.131 or just the carpal tunnel?

TIA

Jasmine,

If the provider documents carpal tunnel syndrome of whichever limb, wrist, or other body part; then that is what you code not the abnormal study code. You always code the provider's documented definitive diagnosis if given.
