I work for a Neurology group who perform EMG and NCV's. A question has recently come up regarding orders from referring doctors. Does anyone know if a doctor writes an order for a patient to see our doctors for a consult only and they decide to do the testing at this visit if there is any requirement for us to have an order to state the patient should have testing as well? I have not been able to find any definite documentation on this.

Anytime you are doing outside testing for a referring provider you should have an order on file. I would hate to be audited and not have them!
