check out ZHealthpublishing.... the books are pricey but WORTH IT! You can purchase an older year like left over 2008 or 2009 at a really reduced price. It will give you the basic knowledge you need and then apply any updates

It is a wonderful beginners tool that is in layman's language. The price is about average for these kinds of materials. I used these sources to basically teach myself.
