I work in a Family Practice Clinic. Our providers also cover the local hospital's ER. We don't bill out for their ER charges as the hospital does that. So if our provider performs a procedure in the ER that has a global period are we allowed to charge for their follow up when they come to the clinic? For example if our provider reduces a dislocated shoulder in the ER on 3/15 are we allowed to bill an E/M code on 3/16 and 3/30 for their follow up visits in our clinic? We both (hospital and clinic) have different NPI numbers and are considered separate businesses.
