E/M coding for Consulting Physicians in the ER typically when a patient is seen in the ER by a consulting physician and goes home we have always billed office consults with POS ER now Medicare said no consults do we bill new patient/or est. patient? (Physician no ER Physician) The other day at a conference on CMS Changes to Consult Coding one of the physician questioned if he would use the new coding for Medicare (new patient for ER for a patient who goes home or an estabished because in the past he use office consults 245-243) we were told to bill as followed Admit with AI for admitting physician, sent home ED codes 99281-99285 and admitted to another service 99221-99223. if anyone can direct me to information on the subject please let me know.

Thanks:confused:
