I was hoping to get some help. One of our general surgeons consulted a patient in the hospital. Our doctor did not admit the patient and the patient was admitted later. This is not a medicare patient. Do I code for an outpatient consult?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Where was patient seen?

So was the patient in the ER? Or in the hospital but under observation when your doctor saw for the consult?

If not a Medicare patient - for now - you use the regular consultation codes. Depending on whether patient was an inpatient when seen by you, this is either an outpatient or inpatient consult.
