ER/PR Status

It's my understanding that for all breast cancers we have to report the patient's ER/PR status (Z17.0 or Z17.1) every time? As soon as the physician populates it in the patient's chart in our EMR, it pulls forward to subsequent visits so they don't have to choose it each time. But one of my physicians was questioning the reporting of it on every claim. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Yes it must be reported each time you use a breast cancer code that requires the ER+/- add-on code. It is a pain, we agree, but the guidelines state that it must be reported.

Thanks for the confirmation! I was pretty sure I was right about reporting it each time, and yes it's a pain but apparently necessary!
