We had a patient that came into the ER on the 19th with several issues but mainly Epigastric Pain. The patient was in observation on the 19th, 20th, and on the 21st a Esophagoscopy Flex Biopsy was performed. After the surgery, the patient was moved to inpatient status. My question is can you bill for observation hours leading up to the surgery since this was not a scheduled procedure?
