We have a patient who had a total elbow arthroplasty and wound up with an infection. Our provider took her back to the OR a couple weeks after surgery for an I&D. He is stating he also excised a 10x5 cm eschar...I'm not sure how to code this, here is part of the op note:
"...We then opened up our previous skin incision line and dark-tinged serous fluid then had no smell and was evacuated. There was no obvious pus noted, but there was a large eschar that was excised as the underlying tissue appeared to be necrotic, but not infected. We then performed mechanical debridement and harvested cultures..."
I was planning on 10180 for the I&D, but not sure how to code the eschar excision...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
