Hi, does the estimated LOS need to be documented for 90801? One of our Docs thought he read that somewhere. I haven't come across anything saying it's required.

I haven't seen anything that says it has to be unless it is in your hospital policy. All my docs address it, but I think that they do it on their own accord. It is not required in the actual documentation guidelines (that I am aware of) of a 90801 as that can be in or outpatient.
 
Likely that is a facility policy that assists in either pre-cert or defending a patient's LOS to insurers. It is not required universally for this code. In fact, this code can be used either IP or OP, so LOS has no relevance for the OP use. I say it's moot, except on a local level.
