I am drawing a blank today, I know there is a rule with this out there, but I am drawing a blank.

I recently saw a note that a different website counted this as GI Organ system

GI-NABS (normal active bowel sounds)
I remember learning and even through out the years that the provider would have needed to document a bit more than that get this counted for GI system exam.
Provider would need to document at least one of the following:
  • Abd (+/- masses or tenderness)
  • Liver, spleen
  • hernia (+/-)
  • anus, perineum, rectum
  • stool for occult blood
I am incorrect?

1995 vs 1997 guidelines

GI-NABS (normal active bowel sounds)

Under 1995 guidelines this would count at GI organ system (or Abdomen body area, but NOT both)

Under 1997 guidelines this statement is invisible, and does not get you a bullet at all

Hope that helps.
