New member & rookie coding student working an externship wants to know the difference between the "A limited examination..." and "An extended examination..." designations found within the Evaluation & Management, Extent of Examination definitions. My externship supervisor wants me to start performing some E&M coding audits with a Palmetto internet code audit tool. The program requests that I designate "limited" or "extended" examination before selecting body areas and organ systems to calculate level of exam. My supervisor was not available today to answer my inquiry. Any help would be appreciated.
