Wow! Could it be they meant a partial removal of bone more like a deep debridement? I can't imagine they removed the entire sacrum - there are nerves running through there. I found coccygectomy where they take off the tailbone so hope that helps.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable with come along. :)
