Wiki exclude/include concept

I am still confused with exclude / include concept of ICD -9CM guideline

code 959.01 [ closed head injury ] says exclude 850.9 [ concussion ]

code 850.9 [ concussion ] says exclude 959.01 [ closed head injury ]

in my ED Progress note both dx are documented. can i code both

please help

in this case no you cannot code both that is why they are excluded from each other. Go with the more definitive of the 2.

as per ICD guidleine , we have to code both ICD as both are excluded from each other.
