A patient had two excisions done. One was for melanoma (C43.72) and the other was for basal cell (C44.41). The anesthesia claim billed with both of the DX codes but keeps getting denied due to C44.41 with excludes 1 guideline with C43.-. Would it be appropriate to remove the C44.41 and just bill with the melanoma code? Both DX are documented on all notes and pathology clearly states that patient has both DX.
