Please read the icd 9 cm Section I. Conventions, general coding guidelines and
chapter specific guidelines, the exclude notes states "the codes for the excluded terms should not be used in conjunction with the code from which it is excluded" So here the acute pharyngitis is not coded when we code with nasopharyngitis code only 460 alone
