we are having a discussion on the Excludes 1; When you have an excludes 1 associated diagnosis do you code to the excludes diagnosis or to the diagnosis that has the excludes;
Example D12 code set excludes K63.5; Some of my associates say that we use the K63.5 if both a tubular adenoma (ascending) and a colon polyp (cecum) are both biopsied. The majority state that you code just the d12 location specific code;
When we code D72.81 code set which has neutropenia D70-D70.9 as the excludes and the patient has neutropenia we code the excludes diagnosis not the D72. This is opposite of the above line of thinking
