My physician wants to bill external fixator removal in the same session with ORIF. The encoder does not have this bundled per CCI, but to me this would be bundled if the removal was done as a routine part of the open repair. I can understand billing separately if the ex fix is removed due to an infection or malfunction, but if it is just removed because the soft tissues have now healed enough to do the open repair, I feel this would be bundled. Am I wrong? I could only find documentation supporting the billing of internal fixation. I couldn't find anything on external.
