If anyone can clarify this for me i would appreciate it. I work for orthopaedic surgeons and one of them sees patient's at a hospital facility. The patient's are being charged our physician fee and a facility charge by the hospital.

Is this correct?

Thank you!

Yes, that's correct depending on the circumstances.
Hospital bills for facility while physician bills for professional
versus the hospital billing globally (facility & professional)
which I think is also a possibility depending on the
billing arrangements.

ok but the patient's insurance is charging the patient co-pays for both?

would that be correct?

and thank you for your response!

Did you bill the physician fee as inpatient? It really depends on the patient's insurance policy. There very well may be a separate copay for inpatient professional services, but most policies that I have seen apply an inpatient copay.

Yes I believe we do charge inpatient because we do not pay rent at that facility. I am just trying to figure out what is the correct way to do this so that our patient's do not get billed twice.

I hope this makes sense.

Just let me know.

Thanks!
