Our doctor planned to do an ablation on a patient, but due to anatomical constraints, the catheter was unable to get into the heart.
He had to spend over an hour attempting before aborting the procedure. How should I code and bill for this?
I was thinking of appending modifier 53, but I figured that a failed catheterization means the ablation didn’t even start. In this case, I can’t code for the ablation, right?
