Failed bone marrow biopsy

The physician attempted a bone marrow biopsy 3 times, but failed-pt essentially had too much soft tissue to reach pt's periosteum. Pt was sent for IR biopsy. Can I bill it as a bone marrow biopsy with modifier 53?
My interpretation of the reason for the discontinuation of the procedure matches the description of modifier 53 (the procedure was stopped due to extenuating circumstances), however, I was hoping someone here could provide more insight.
