I work for an internal medicine doctor & he want me to bill Medicare for family counseling.. How do I do that? Can someone please help..

What code exactly is he wanting to use? A regular office visit can be used, but the physician needs to document how much time was spent actually COUNSELING. If the time spent is over 50% of the visit, then the visit becomes TIME BASED. There are also Prolonged Services add on codes they can be used along with the office visit. Sometimes when a physician, other than a Psychiatrist or Psychologist, bills with a counseling code the insurance will not pay.
