Wiki Family therapy for substance abuse

Have you looked at CPT codes in the range of 90845-90849? It is important to note that some insurance companies will not cover 90846-Family Psychotherapy (without the patient present), because they require the patient to be present for the services to be covered. The family therapy needs to be under the patient who has the SA condition being treated, so you cannot bill 90846 under another family member who was part of the family psychotherapy appointment just to get reimbursed for the visit where the patient wasn't present. If you are billing Medicaid there are codes in the T HCPCS range that are for these services as well.

As for the POS being outpatient, that it too vague of a statement about where the services are being rendered to determine the appropriate POS because so many POS are considered outpatient, i.e., office, telemedicine provided other than in the patient's home, telemedicine provided in the patient's home, off campus-outpatient hospital, on campus-outpatient hospital, FQHC, community mental health center. You can find a list of POS codes and their definitions in Appendix J of the CPT book.

The ICD-10 code is going to have to be selected on a per chart/visit note basis. Hopefully this is enough info to get you started.
